Homemade Fruit Popsicles

Image
The weather has been really hot here this past week, so I was on the hunt for a refreshing and healthy snack! I was pretty disappointed when I read the ingredients for store bought popsicles. Since most brands had added sugars and artificial ingredients, I decided to make my own! These are super easy to make and you can add whatever combination of fruit you prefer. I added a bit of Shaklee Performance , a natural pure hydration drink which hydrates better than water! They were a huge hit with my family and are super refreshing!  Ingredients: - Half of a watermelon, pureed - Performance Pure Hydration Drink , Lemon Lime - Assorted sliced fruit (strawberries, blueberries, peaches, kiwi) - Juice of 1 lime Puree half of a watermelon, a handful of strawberries and the juice of 1 lime. Add 6 teaspoons of Performance (1 tsp per popsicle) and mix well.  Pour mixture into popsicle molds until half full and add sliced fruit.  Freeze for at least 6 hours and enjoy this hea...

What are you really drinking in your water?

Image
We all know that drinking enough water is important to stay hydrated.  The water from your tap may look clean,  but exactly how safe is it?    The truth is, c hemicals that can be harmful to your health can actually turn up in the water your family  drinks. H eavy metals, industrial pollutants, pesticidesthese harmful contaminants can  enter our water supplies and have the potential to create long-term health challenges.  According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the water we drink is responsible  for up to 20% of lead exposure in humans . And an EPA report demonstrates that at least  13% of the nations water treatment systems have violated the Safe Drinking Water Act in  each of the past five years. I spent some time researching the drinking water contaminants listed on the EPA's website. Here's what could be lurking in your drinking water: Heavy Metals - (Lead, Mercury, and Cadmium) Source: Corrosion of household ...

Ingredients: - 2 1/2 cups cooked quinoa, at room temperature - 3 eggs, beaten - 1/2 tsp salt (or more depending on taste) - 1 tsp pepper - 1/3 cup chopped fresh chives (or cilantro) - 1 onion, finely chopped - 1/3 cup cheddar cheese (you can experiment with different types of cheese) - 4 large garlic cloves, crushed - 1 cup panko break crumbs (plus more if needed) - water, if needed - olive oil 1.  Combine cooked quinoa , eggs, and salt in a medium bowl.  Stir in chives, onion, cheese, and garlic.  Add the bread crumbs and allow to sit for a minute, to absorb some of the moisture. Err on the moist side, so you don't get an overly dry patty.  Add more bread crumbs or water at this point as needed.   2.  Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat, cooking patties 7-10 ...

Women's Health - Tips for Strong Bones

Image
Ladies...this post is for you!! Since National Women's Health week was just a few days ago, I thought i'd share with you these great tips from Dr. Jamie McManus (Chair of Medical Affairs, Health Science, & Education at Shaklee Corporation), for keeping your bones strong and healthy! When you think about getting healthy, what comes to mind first? If you are like most Americans, you first think about losing weight or maybe trying to eat less fat to lower cholesterol levels. While these are both important, in my opinion there is probably nothing more critical to your health than having strong bones! Your skeleton holds you up and together. The 236 bones that make up your skeleton anchor your muscles in place and protect your vital organsincluding your brain. And did you know your skeleton completely replaces itself every 12 months or so? Thats rightthe cells of your bones are constantly being broken down and rebuilt again. Your highest bone density is reached in your 20saf...
